Broom finished concrete is a type of concrete surface finish achieved by using a broom to create a textured pattern on the concrete surface. After pouring and leveling the concrete, before it sets completely, a broom is dragged across the surface to create a series of shallow grooves or ridges.

The process of broom finishing is commonly used for exterior concrete surfaces, such as sidewalks, driveways, patios, and pool decks. The broom finish serves several practical purposes:

  1. Slip resistance: The textured surface created by the broom provides traction and helps to prevent slipping, especially when the surface is wet or icy.
  2. Aesthetic appeal: Broom finishing adds a decorative touch to plain concrete surfaces. The texture can vary depending on the type of broom used and the angle at which it is dragged across the concrete.
  3. Cost-effective: Broom finishing is a relatively simple and quick method, making it a cost-effective way to finish large areas of concrete.

It’s worth noting that broom finished concrete may not be suitable for interior applications or areas with heavy traffic where a smoother finish may be more desirable. In those cases, other finishing techniques like troweling or polishing may be used.
